Hi friendos,
We've had a large pile of cabinet shaped metalwork in the space for a while now -
A number of us have tried and failed to build a cabinet out of it, I think there's a few different incomplete cabinets contained within the pile. It's now taking up space, moving occasionally and taking up space in its new location.
Do we want to investigate getting rid of it or finding the original owner, seeing if they want it and returning it? It'd be really nice to begin to use our floorspace a little better as we head towards the winter party (and events before then!).
Alternatively: Can we repurpose it for something else? Structured wood storage? A jail for members offspring? A pet corral?
Cheers,
Hx

Hello hacking and making folk
It's Tuesday again, so open eve at the hackspace. Feels like Monday a bit,
after yesterday's regal mourn-a-thon bank holiday.
I'm no fan really of what 3 words, but the hackspace is at
"things.tuned.wacky", "slower.boil.apply" or perhaps "hurry.toys.thin" I
was hoping there might be a square with something funnier, but that's bout
the best we can do. Anyway, we're in the usual place.
Come along if you fancy, hit back with a reply if you're feeling chatty or
whatever, good to let folk know your plans.
I'll be in for a wee bit, from about 7:00-ish till 7:45-ish, anyone else
gonna be in for longer? Sadly I have some kid shuttling to do.
Happy hacking.
Andy
Howdy y'all!
As of last night we have a working home-assistant instance and MQTT broker again. Hooray!
Documentation will eventually be updated at https://wiki.57north.org.uk/projects/home_assistant once there's more to do with it.
At the moment MQTT is unauthenticated, please don't abuse it, but you can use it for non home-assistanty things too.
Currently the only thing on the network is the discolight, and I'd quite like some more stuff to control.
MPD integration was quite helpful, especially pausing playback when you pressed close space.
I want to get the neon strips over in the sofa area on the system so they can easily be activated/deactivated so I'm going to pick up some sonoff switches.
Do we want to go as far as putting workbench power on the system so they can be powered down by hitting 'close space'?
Temperature sensors might be quite nice too - has anyone got a suggestion of ones that will be compatible? Anything else anyone can think of?

Hello all,
I intend to be at space as well, probably from 8ish. Converting a Sonoff to
a power meter. .. knowing myself, this will keep me focussed for rest of
the month.
See you tonight.

Hiya Folks,
See next open night, would it be ok if I used the 3D printer to print
a set of guard rails for my yaesu FT-818ND? I'm happy to pay for the
use of the plastic like. It would be great if anyone could run me
through the process too because I've not used any 3d printer kit in
about 5 years.
Best wishes,
Johnny
Hey all,
Bit of a long shot question: I am looking for a bandsaw, to split a
couple of thick planks in two. Until today I never needed a bandsaw, so
I don't own one...Has anyone on here a bandsaw at home, or know a
friend/family member in Aberdeen(shire) who would allow me to use theirs
for 10 minutes? It would need to be a bandsaw with cut depth of approx
125mm.
Cheerio,
Wouter
