Hi All,
We are collecting items for the Four Pillars charity shop which will operate on George Street from the 4th to the 9th of August. You can bring these donations to the space tonight, or next Tuesday, and they will be magically transported to the charity shop so you don't have to go anywhere you weren't going anyway.
They are looking for:
• Bric-a-brac
• Toys and Games
• Books
• CDs, DVDs, Vinyl
• Jewellery
• Electronics in good working order (no FPGA dev kits please)
Proceeds of the sale of the items will go to support Four Pillars, an LGBT+ charity operating in the Grampian area and organiser of Grampian Pride.
If you bring items along please let me know and I'll arrange they are transported.

It's Tuesday, so we will have our weekly open night.
If you've not heard of us, 57North get up to a range of activities on
Tuesday nights in our shared workspace, including (but not limited to)
social contact, programming, manufacturing weird things, consuming sugary
treats and the odd can of alcoholic beverage. Typically we kick off at 1930.
We're located at:

someone shall come and rescue you from downstairs after a brief wait.
There's plenty of parking, but if you don't have transport, then get in
touch either here or IRC and someone may be able to help you out! The
number 1 bus comes nearby too.
If you're new, I'd suggest you bring a laptop, and perhaps a project you
want to work on. If you're not new, shoot a reply to the list and tell us
what you'll be up to, and maybe consider bringing a friend. Please mention
a time if you'll be in before me!
We like our space being accessible for all. When visiting, please ensure
you tidy up after yourself, clean any dishes, cups, cutlery and store them
away. There are vacuum cleaners too, for cleaning the floor. If you have
any questions, please ask one of the regular visitors or members for advise.

There are some plans to be doing some patching up and painting of Soap Factory over the next couple of months. If anyone would be able to lend another pair of hands for some time to help with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Dates where stuff will be happening are:
• July 15th (tomorrow, so probably too short notice to rope any of you in for this one).
• July 26th-28th (we have AberLUG meeting in the calendar for afternoon of 27th in this window - can maybe chat about Linux/FOSS while patching walls).
• August 4th-7th
• August 11th-17th
No special skills required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to roll up your sleeves! Even a few hours of your time would make a tremendous difference.
We're also looking for tools and materials if anyone has spares from their own projects:
• Paint rollers and trays (standard size and mini size for painting wood)
• Paint brushes (various sizes)
• Drop cloths/dust sheets
• Roll and Stroll sticky carpet protector (or similar non-branded version)
• Painter's tape/masking tape
• Tubes of readymade filler
• Wall scraper tools
• Sandpaper
• Small tubs for decanting paint and cleaning brushes
• Heavy duty rubbish bags
If anyone is interested in helping please say so in CtC slack or email info(a)codethecity.org with when you'd be available.

Hello, happy Tuesday.
It's open evening at the space again, and it's also our AGM at 8pm till
maybe 8:30pm. We'll get pizza for after the AGM, to celebrate completion
of our administrative obligation. We'll share a Jitzi link via email and
Signal at least 15 mins before the meeting too, for those who want to dial
in. Anything you'd like to raise or discuss as a group, that isn't
directly related to the business AGM stuff, we can just chat about
afterwards.

Just a reminder, we've the AGM tomorrow at 8pm. Though it's nice to get
together, the AGM itself is sort of a governance formality so we can say
we're doing everything relatively correctly, as an organisation. I think
it typically takes 20-30 mins. There is always plenty of time to discuss
non AGM things afterwards too.
The AGM announcement email from a couple of weeks' ago is included below,
ICYMI / FYI / FOMO / etc.
We'll confirm remote attendance details tomorrow, for those dialing in,
which will probably be Jitzi or similar.

57 North Hacklab Ltd. will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM)
at 20:00 on Tuesday 1st of July 2025 in the Hacklab's space in Suite
H, Kettock Lodge, Innovation Park, Campus Two, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen
AB22 8GU.
Much of the procedure for the AGM is laid out in the articles of
association which can be obtained from Companies House.
Our current membership count is about 22 (TBC before the AGM) a
quarter of 22 is 5.5 which is more than 5, so quorum for the meeting
will require 6 members (see Article 44).

The AGM is intended to be a check that we are sticking to our legal
requirements rather than going through the day to day running of the
space (issues about the day to day running would be better raised on
the discuss mailing list).
We are now accepting nominations for anyone who wishes to stand for
election as a director for the next year. Nominations can be made by
sending an email to 57north-announce at lists.57north.co stating that
you would like to stand (and some explanation of why) before the
meeting or by indicating that you want to stand when we get to that
part of the meeting. Please send it as soon as possible.
The details of how the election of directors will be conducted will be
up to whoever is elected to chair the meeting (Articles 48, 51 and 52)
but will probably be something along the lines of: if we have less
than 5 candidates more nominations will be sought until we get to 5 or
more candidates. If we have exactly 5 candidates at the AGM then they
will become the new board. If we have more than 5 candidates then
we'll have an election to decide who gets to be a director.
If any member can't make the meeting there are a couple of things they
can do to participate should they wish to.
Any issues you'd like to have raised at the meeting can be sent to
57north-discuss at lists.57north.org.uk or privately to any of the
directors or to the directors collectively at 57north-ctte-private at
lists.57north.org.uk (please make it clear you are sending something
you want raised at the AGM) and we will see that it is brought up.
A proxy can be appointed to vote on your behalf at the meeting (see
Articles 47, 53 and 54). If you would like to appoint a proxy please
send an email to 57north-ctte-private at lists.57north.co
Email sent to the 57north-ctte-private address is redirected to all
presently listed directors and is not archived by 57North Hacklab (but
may be by the individual directors).
The email should contain:
- Your name and address (as it appears in the register of members (hackhub))
- Who you would like to appoint as a proxy
- That this is for the AGM on 1st of July 2025
- If you have any specifications for how the proxy is to act on your behalf.
The proxy should bring the same details to the meeting on paper and
signed by the member they are to act as a proxy for.
Remote participation in our meetings is allowed, if anyone who can't
make it to the meeting would like to participate remotely, we can set
up a conference call and/or video call for the meeting. Any members
who would like to connect via one of these channels should let me know
- it will not be set this up unless demand for it is communicated to
me. If anyone has a different preference for how they would like to
participate remotely, let me know and I'll see what can be done.
