Hello friends!
Thanks to those that came along - there was more hoovering and more surface cleaning!
We took the time to tidy and label some more consumables, archive some more stuff (with
blame!) and make a big change!
We decided as a group to try and consolidate & extend the social workspace in the same
section as the speakers and DJ lights currently sit.
The concept behind this was to create a progressively more social set of spaces from the
dirty workshop to the sofas following this logic:
Dirty Workshop - Loud, concentrated metal & woodwork (pillar drills, band saws, laser
cutter, dremels etc).
**NEW** Reserved workspace area - We discussed building new project workspaces where the
brown oval desk currently sits. We could put several larger desks here available to be
reserved and used by members for use for a longer period of time. We’d need to plan it,
build it out and talk more, but we’ve cleared the floor to see how we live in the
different space. This could also be quite a good area to seat a number of people - it
feels quite big now the floor is clear, it could suit a meet-up, lecture or get together.
Social Workspace & Printing area - the oval plasticky desk is now longer, and a free
workspace at the end of it is clear again. People being social can be closer to the music!
So it can be less disruptive
Sofas - Hopefully by moving more socialising towards the sofas we can encourage some use
of this really underused area of the space. There was a discussion about moving the kettle
and microwave here too, (safely away from the smoke detector). We’d need to create some
space - maybe drop a sofa, and assess whether we need the bean bags - at least one is
leaking polystyrene balls, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen them used for activities other
than breaking rule 5 when I’ve had too much to drink :D
This is quite a change! Remember - it’s our space - come in, have a look, have a think
about the ideas above and let’s chat about how things can be laid out. This didn’t take
long, but it creates an interesting difference in how the place feels. It won’t be final,
and it shouldn’t be - let’s hack the space some more.
Cheers
Hx

I have started a wiki page to capture the ideas and little papercuts people have in the
leadup so that we can think about them all.
Feel free to add items and add discussion to ensure your voice is heard and we've
considered things properly!
