Hi,
There have been complaints about the wi-fi in the space not being very good. The area of
the space is quite a bit larger than the average house that the tiny router was intended
to cover. Instead, we could deploy some Unifi access points throughout the space to give
better coverage and better spectrum utilisation (using lower power to talk to the AP
nearest to you).
I've got one access point to put into the space, but ideally we would like 2 or 3. If
we got more then we could start covering more of the room that we are in, potentially even
giving coverage to people outside the front door which has been requested by those that
don't have keys.
Thanks to Ana for working with me one afternoon to take apart the ceiling and stick some
Ethernet in it, we now have a new rack between the radio desk and the multimedia(?) desk
that has wired Ethernet. We've also run patches to the switch in the desk and to the
laser printer. Moving PiMPD onto the wired Ethernet would save some bandwidth as streaming
music probably does jam up the channel a bit. Everything is there ready for this to happen
but I don't know how PiMPD is configured so I didn't touch it.
I will add a static IP for the laser printer and get that added to the wiki so that
it's super easy (and reliable) to print from wherever you are in the space.

Good work!
Regarding MPD, it lives on a VM on Alford, so it's already on the wired network. The
pi bit of it is a snapcast renderer, I can't remember if it's zeroconf or if it
points at the VM's static IP directly.
Changing it should be a case of pulling out the wireless dongle and plugging in ethernet
to the pi to save us all those many megabits of bandwidth :)

Hi,
That's convenient, I'll give that a go next time I am in the space.
Just any Ubiquiti Unifi access points of any age, so we can have them do the smart channel
steering and AP steering stuff that they do. If someone already has a full set of access
points and a controller we could use that instead, but we've got at least one AP and
maybe a controller for the Unifi range so that'd be my starting point.
