Hi, Andy.
There was a 'red' Aurora alert last night and I went up Suie Hill near
here to have a look, but it was quite cloudy and the Aurora was diffuse
green most of the time, which would have disappointed your kids.
Best advide to see the lights is to go somewhere with a good view of the
Northern Horizon and low light pollution. Most of the spectacular
pictures people are posting were taken with low-light cameras and
exposures > 60s.
I'll show you some of my pics at the Hackspace tomorrow if you want?
Also check the "Glendale" App:
Happy Aurora hunting :-)

Hi
Looking at the Aurora forecast...
https://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/
...and the weather...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2657832
...it looks like this afternoon and evening might be good for Aurora
spotting, perhaps between 17:00 and 18:00. With sunset being 16:13,
clear skies between 16:00 and 18:00 and peak Aurora
between 17:00 and 18:00, maybe we'll be in luck.
As someone who's probably* never seen the northern lights, any
suggestions on where to go near Aberdeen, or tips? Also, for the sake
of kids' expectation management, if it looks like it does in photos,
to the naked eye?
Cheers
Andy
