Tuesday, so it's Open Evening again, 25th of Jan

Evening All Happy Tuesday, it's 57 North Hacklab Open Evening. Come along, email and let us know your plans if you fancy. All the usual covid blah blah applies, precautions and check-in with the QR code and stuff. We need to be sensible, it's not like it's a work meeting at Downing street, so we best avoid hard drugs, flaming sambucas, naked dancing, singing happy birthday, and that sort of thing. Lidl Dremel-like, £17

Hi I noticed in Lidl they've got Parkside 12v dremel-like rotary tools, has anyone tried one of these? It seems like a good deal at £17, I've never used a cordless rotary multi tool though. They had loads of them in the wellington road branch, though I think it's last week's lidl in the middle offer. Anyway, just in the off chance anyone else has tried one, thought I'd ask, before taking a punt. Cheers Andy

Tuesday Open Day, 18th Jan '22

Evening hackers Hope everyone's well. It's Tuesday again, so 57North's open day / evening. I'll be along, probably about 7 or 8, not totally sure though. Let us know your plans, or just see you there. Please don't forget to follow all the normal covid measures, and scan the QR code on arrival. Also, as mentioned by Tom & Nick, ICYMI, folk will be on WorkAdventure on Friday at https://wa.tabascoeye.de/_/global/raw.githubusercontent.com/ScottishConsula as a Scottish Consulate gathering. Not to be confused with the Scottih Embasy, which is a pub downtown on Trinity Street, I've not been in, it looks fine, but I don't think they have an ambassador serving Ferrero Rocher on silver platters. 57North Hackspace, Open Tuesday, 11th of January

Hi Hope everyone had a great xmas and new year. It's Tuesday again, so hackspace open night. I'll be along around 7 or 8, probably thinkering with some web services stuff, and maybe some signage bits n bobs, if screen fatigue sets in. Hit back with a reply if you're heading in too, let us know what's on the cards. Anyone got any fun projects they're starting this year? Space Wi-Fi + Wired Network (aka please donate some Unifi APs)

Hi, There have been complaints about the wi-fi in the space not being very good. The area of the space is quite a bit larger than the average house that the tiny router was intended to cover. Instead, we could deploy some Unifi access points throughout the space to give better coverage and better spectrum utilisation (using lower power to talk to the AP nearest to you). I've got one access point to put into the space, but ideally we would like 2 or 3. If we got more then we could start covering more of the room that we are in, potentially even giving coverage to people outside the front door which has been requested by those that don't have keys. Thanks to Ana for working with me one afternoon to take apart the ceiling and stick some Ethernet in it, we now have a new rack between the radio desk and the multimedia(?) desk that has wired Ethernet. We've also run patches to the switch in the desk and to the laser printer. Moving PiMPD onto the wired Ethernet would save some bandwidth as streaming music probably does jam up the channel a bit. Everything is there ready for this to happen but I don't know how PiMPD is configured so I didn't touch it. I will add a static IP for the laser printer and get that added to the wiki so that it's super easy (and reliable) to print from wherever you are in the space. Thanks, Iain.
