It's Tuesday, so we will have our weekly open night..again!
If you've not heard of us, 57North get up to a range of activities on
Tuesday nights in our shared workspace, including (but not limited to)
social contact, programming, manufacturing weird things, consuming
sugary treats and the odd can of alcoholic beverage. Typically we kick
off at 1930.
We're located at:
Suite H
Kettock Lodge
Innovation Park
Campus Two
Bridge of Don
Aberdeen AB22 8GU

and someone shall come and rescue you from downstairs after a brief

There's plenty parking, but if you don't have transport get in touch
either here or IRC and someone may be able to help you out! The number
1 bus comes nearby

If you're new, I'd suggest you bring a laptop, and perhaps a project
you want to work on.
If you're not new, shoot a reply to the list and tell us what you'll
be up to, and maybe consider bringing a friend. Please mention a time
if you'll be in before me!
I shall be in from about 730pm, setting up a live stream server on a
raspberry pi.
I will be leaving by 930pm, and can offer a ride back into town.

...it looks like this afternoon and evening might be good for Aurora
spotting, perhaps between 17:00 and 18:00. With sunset being 16:13,
clear skies between 16:00 and 18:00 and peak Aurora
between 17:00 and 18:00, maybe we'll be in luck.
As someone who's probably* never seen the northern lights, any
suggestions on where to go near Aberdeen, or tips? Also, for the sake
of kids' expectation management, if it looks like it does in photos,
to the naked eye?

The Coop I work for, Black Cat, are trying to get transition funding for Insulation and need people in the NE to vote please vote and share.
Black Cat is the worker cooperative, who operate the grassroots music venue Krakatoa, not for profit.
We are converting the 3 floors above Krakatoa to incorporate 8 double rooms and a sustainable vegetarian cafe, all of which will operate not-for-profit. This is aimed at providing low-cost B&B accommodation for touring musicians, booked to perform at Krakatoa and other local music venues.
This is projected to deliver a 90% reduction in energy costs over a conventional build, resulting in a significantly larger surplus that will be reinvested into enhancing the local grassroots music scene.
