Hi, All. Sorry, I didn't realise that I've been freeloading without paying my subs since Jan 2022! I've just paid in £280 of subs that I owed and sorted out my direct debit that seems to have decided itself not to work over a year ago. I can afford to do this after selling my Rockpro64 on eBay yesterday :-) Yes, I know that Tue are our 'open' nights, but I do want to contribute properly as a member of 57North. Open Tuesday 21 February

Hi all, It's Tuesday again, which means Open Tuesday at 57 North's hackerspace. If you've not heard of us, 57North get up to a range of activities on Tuesday nights in our little clubhouse, including (but not limited to) social contact, programming, manufacturing weird things and consuming sugary treats. Typically we kick off at 1930. [1] We're located at: Suite H Kettock Lodge Innovation Park Campus Two Bridge of Don Aberdeen AB22 8GU There's plenty parking, but if you don't have transport get in touch either here or IRC and someone may be able to help you out! If you're new, I'd suggest you bring a laptop, and perhaps a project you want to work on. If you're not new, shoot a reply to the list and tell us what you'll be up to, and maybe consider bringing a friend. If you're coming in before me, please mention! I will be visiting tonight from some time between 7pm and 730pm to work on the dismemberment script on the wiki, in between the limping around and introducing a friend to the hackerspace. And let me also take the opportunity here to encourage fairly new and repeat visitors to the space to become an official member, if you are not one already. Metalworking

A little while back there was some discussion of the fact that the space had some money and we could maybe spend some of it. My suggestion was to get some metalworking kit. We can't do any welding, or messing about with angle grinders, in the current space, but I think we could do that kind of stuff outside. I've started putting together a shopping list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aN45uawBxfwGDv5QHeQNBai381cBeo6XVzb… What I've called "minimal setup" there is actually quite a long way from actual minimal setup. You can get a (crappy) stick welder and an angle grinder for less than £100. It's more minimal setup that would actually be good/convenient enough I'd be likely to use it rather than going out to parents and borrowing kit they've got. Less self centred approaches to deciding what we should get would be welcome :) Things I've put on that list are what I thought looked best after a few minutes of googling, there are probably better/cheaper options. I'm hoping you lot can help with finding them... I'd really like a better/cheaper option for curtains/screens; those look pretty flimsy, and I don't like idea of spending ~1/5 of budget on them but I haven't yet found anything better. My preference would be "minimal" plus extras down to getting a drill. That would cost about £1000. Do we still have money that we could spend on this? (I know there was unknown value of electricity bill and some other things outstanding when I last talked to anyone about space finances. Have they consumed our spare cash?) Does anyone (other than me) think this would be a good thing to spend money on? Do you agree/disagree with what I've put on the shopping list? Open eve at the space, 24th of Jan
