Aberdeen Social Centre - Newsletter
Hello Everyone.
Another week and another set of events. Remember it is Juneteenth, a
lesson from the USA, all human rights were fought for and even when won
doesn't mean the state will implement those rights everywhere and for
everyone. This maps onto other issues, see what we have been scheming
this week.

Hi all
Sending on a message fresh from the Camp:
'Our grassroots group of staff and students and Palestinian Solidarity
Society at UoA have come together to peacefully start an encampment and
protest across the university until our voices are heard! We urge our
administration at the University of Aberdeen to listen and demand an
immediate and permanent end to the Israeli military's ongoing genocide
of Palestinians. We demand that our university:
* Will commit to permanent divestment from Israeli apartheid. This
includes updating the investment policy to ensure companies on the BDS
list are neither directly invested in nor invested in directly through
holdings in managed funds. A few of these companies being HP to stop the
renewal of their contract that supplies the school with both desktop and
mobile computing services, shutting down the Starbucks (supplier to
Union Brew) and Subway on campus, and any relations to Barclays.
* Will openly CONDEMN Israel and release a statement on the on-going
genocide, call for the UK government to embargo arms exports to Israel,
and end all Scottish Enterprise grants to arms companies.
* To engage in academic boycott and pledge not to enter any
partnerships with Israeli universities.
* Call for Police Scotland to end its contract with Briefcam that
provides object matching services to CCTV, and operates with the Israeli
police, military, and border control.
(For more information on our list of demands visit and sign our petition
at https://www.change.org/p/uoa-encampment-demands)
We currently have been so grateful to be raising funds and receiving
donations from many supporters across the city. At the moment we are in
need of:
* Blankets
* Duvets
* Sleeping Bags
* Hot Water Bottles
* Nonelectrical Heating Supplies
Please be sure to donate what you can!
Our GoFundMe link is:

But our main focus remains on gaining hands and numbers. We need campers
who can stay overnight and people who can speak at rallies, teach-ins,
or activities. Activities can be anything to keep us busy throughout the
day (music, art, hobbies, etc.)! If you're interested in leading
something along these lines, know someone who may be interested, or
would like to get in touch be sure to email me'

ASA WINSTANLEY - SPEAKER TOUR EVENT
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST IN ABERDEEN
Join us to hear from acclaimed journalist and writer, Asa Winstanley on
Tuesday evening (7.30pm) at Aberdeen Arts Centre. Book your space:
https://Asa-SPSC-Aberdeen.eventbrite.co.uk [2]
Asa Winstanley has been writing about Palestine and the Israel lobby
since 2005. He has been an associate editor and reporter with the
award-winning website The Electronic Intifada for more than a decade. He
spent two years living under Israeli occupation in the West Bank.
In an electrifying account, as meticulously researched as it is
fast-paced, Winstanley shows how Labour's anti-Semitism crisis was
manufactured by those who feared Jeremy Corbyn's support for the
Palestinian cause and a broad progressive agenda.
Drawing on new interviews with many of those victimised in purges the
Labour leadership claimed were necessary to tackle anti-Semitism,
Winstanley exposes a highly effective operation that saw the Israeli
embassy, the right-wing of the Labour Party, and the mainstream media
acting in concert to prevent a socialist from entering Downing Street.
*SIGNED COPIES OF ASA'S BOOK WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT THE
EVENT* https://Asa-SPSC-Aberdeen.eventbrite.co.uk [2]
On Wednesday, November 22nd (7pm), we will hold another "Get involved"
workshop - this time at Aberdeen Trades Council, 22a Adelphi, as well as
online. If you haven't already let us know you're interested to join,
