ASC WEEKLY NEWSLETTER ------------------------- News from Fri 16-May-2025 A Late Email this week, but we have the usual smorgasbord of events, and a new shiny format for the newsletter. SPSC is Celebrating 77 years Since the start of the Nakba in Palestine with a Protest in front of the art gallery where they still promote BP who have the largest share in the BTC pipeline which provides Israel with most of their Crude Oil to be refined for the fighter jets, which the UK also provide parts for, currently engaged in bombing Gaza. We also just had another great meeting by The Marxist Caucus discussing the response to the rise of Reform and reactionary politics in the UK and Scotland, look for more from them. We have two film events this week from the Radical Film Club, one one being a showing from local trans film makers, see below. ------------------------- UPCOMING EVENTS: Events for the next two weeks, for more info check out our Website [1]. ------------------------- BUTCH CLUB Meeting Room ABERDEEN BUTCH CLUB Friday May 16th 18:00-20:00 BST Build kinship and solidarity with other butch lesbians (age 18+) DEMONSTRATION FOR GAZA External SCOTTISH PALESTINE SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN Saturday May 17th 12:00-15:00 BST Please make time to join us on Saturday 17th May to mark 77 years of Nakba. We will be touring the city with Nakba messages and symbols of right of return starting outside the Art Gallery at 12noon. After the tour we will reconvene at 1pm at City Wharf, Shiprow AB115BY for a special Nakba exhibition and film.screening. We're delighted to collaborate with Aberdeen Social Centre for the Radical Cafe with an eclectic mix of Scottish and Palestinian refreshments, from 1-3pm. We hope that you can join us to mark this important day for the Palestinian people. RADICAL CAFE External ABERDEEN SOCIAL CENTRE Saturday May 17th 13:00-15:00 BST ON TOUR - We will be up the road on Shiprow at the open spaces in support of Palestine. Every week we have our Radical Cafe. a space to meet and build those connections with local activists. Vegan treats will be provided from Vegan Bay Bakery! Also we regularly have Zapatista Coffee. ASC MONTHLY MEETING Meeting Room Online ABERDEEN SOCIAL CENTRE Sunday May 18th 14:00-16:00 BST Our monthly ASC organising meeting, where we discuss operations and any issues we need to collectively address. RADICAL FILM CLUB Meeting Room RADICAL FILM CLUB Wednesday May 21st 18:30-21:00 BST We select and watch documentaries and films, mostly political and socially conscious. This Week we will be watching InterRebellium 01. The Estallido Social by SubMedia. A documentary project recording the historic wave of protests and uprisings that broke out around the globe between late 2018 and mid 2020. This is the first of a ten-part series. Told through the eyes of anarchist and anti-colonial participants of the 2019 uprising in the territories occupied by the state of Chile. Aberdeen Social Centre - Newsletter Hello Everyone. Another week and another set of events. SEE HERE - Aberdeen Social Centre | Aberdeen Social Centre | Aberdeen Social Centre [1] This Saturday is the May Day March & Rally. Assemble at Rubislaw Terrace at 11, leaving at 1130, Union Street, via Union Terrace and Schoolhill and rally outside Marischal College at around 1215. There will be speeches, drummers and also the Food Not Bombs stall. Bring you banner and chants no matter which bloc you are in. After the rally the usual Centre Radical Cafe will be on. In other news we are thinking hard on what we do for the 2025 Activist Fair (usually held in September in Old Aberdeen). If you or your local group have some ideas on what you would like to do - please drop us a line!! In other other news Aberdeen Anarchist Group have started a new zine with the pilot issue about May Day OUT NOW - grab a copy at the Social Centre. The zine will appear monthly and may change your life. No promises though. For a list of the public events please see our webpages: so we have SWP tonight, weekend SPSC action, Radical Cafe on Saturday 1-3, Monthly Meeting on Sunday 2-4 and then next week the Radical Film Club (Wednesday 19th). Also on Saturday (after the cafe) there will be an Aberdeen Anti-Fascist Alliance meeting from 3-5. We need groups to keep affiliating and so please pay asap. Also, we would like everyone who supports the Centre to join up as a member. We suggest a !bargain! £10 a year (of course pay as much as you can - if you don't have cash no worries, but please still get involved. Or there are solidarity rates for those that can afford it and we encourage paying a little extra).
