Announcing campGND 2024!

campGND returns 9th-11th August 2024 and you're invited! We'll be in the usual field near Forgue What is campGND? Simply - the Hackerspace goes camping. We like to go somewhere with very few amenities (and poor connectivity). You should bring whatever you need to survive, a project to hack on/make/play with and some stuff to burn too. You need to register for a free ticket at https://ti.to/affafine/campgnd2024 As we're beginning to get nervous about the number of people who like to come play, we want to have an idea of how many folks are planning on turning up. You do not need to be a member of the hackerspace, the weekend is open to all of our friends. Our format shall be slightly different from years gone by - we're inviting talks (and going through with it). Talks are to be on the topic of “The project I haven't finished” and last about 15 minutes. There will be no formal projection or screen facilities in the field, so be resourceful with presentation. To submit a talk, email talks at campgnd dot com You do not need to be camping with us to talk or participate - you're welcome to come by on Saturday, hang out, drink coffee, eat lunch and/or dinner then head home to the comfort of your own home! We're aiming to be lower power (and our generators are unwell) - if you have solar power, solar panels or batteries, bring them and we'll try to be as off grid as possible. Once again, the kitchen will be running - it's in need of volunteers to cook, clean and create/lead meals. We are planning for both omnivorous and vegetarian food this year. We are asking for a suggested donation of £40 per person to participate in the communal kitchen for the full weekend, and a reduced donation of £10 for just the Saturday. Hackurday 29th June, 3pm

Howdy! I plan to be in the hackerspace on Saturday Afternoon/Evening, and you are plenty welcome to join me! I'll have some drinks in the evening and order in a curry/pizza/sushi/kebab/something. Open evening rules[1] will apply - the space will be open to all guests/visitors/etc so feel free to bring a friend, tell a friend or come along and become a friend! I will be working on some Debian and/or radio nonsense as well as fiddling with some stuff I picked up at EMF last month and haven't even looked at. I will likely be transmitting small amounts of data long distances as MS0SCZ - you are welcome to come along and try some amateur radio! 31st Consular Convention for Control & Prohibition of Pandemics

Hi everyone, This Friday (24th) at 8pm we will be having the thirty-first Consular Convention for Control & Prohibition of Pandemics on Jitsi [1]. It's usually on the third Friday of the month but I got a bit carried away preparing for emf and forgot. Everyone is invited to turn up, have a few lemonades and shoot the breeze. This is an informal catchup for 57North members and Scottish Consulate diaspora around the world; a continuation of our regular lockdown video calls. Safety and Cleanliness

Hello hackers, I am in the hackerspace today and I have found the hot glue gun turned on. I can only imagine it has been on since Tuesday - the last time there is record of someone being in the space. I don't think I have to explain why I am angry about this. I have taken the hot glue gun away. Don't argue, don't replace it, think about a reasonable way to mitigate the risk of the hot glue gun burning down the building. Only then, can we have a conversation about keeping dangerous hot tools in the hackerspace. This week the owners of the business park made an inspection and complained about the amount of waste and recycling there is. We as a group are not being responsible with this place we are being allowed the use of. The business park are going to continue random inspections with the goal of moving us out. Each week (ideally) we need to be taking the recycling and waste away. There is a recycling point at the Asda Midleton park (2 minutes away) and at Tesco Danestone (also 2 minutes away). It is everyone's responsibility to not only not leave mess in the space, but to actively try to tidy things up. No one is expected to be perfect, but you are expected to try. - Tom on his own, but without any expectation that the other directors will disagree
