ASC WEEKLY NEWSLETTER ------------------------- News from Thu 04-Sep-2025 Another week, another step on the road to somewhere, this weekend we have a lot of things As part of the Stop Rosebank Day Of Action [1] there is a demonstration outside the North Sea Transition Authority in broad street. on Saturday at 12:30PM. Specifically relating Scotland the current research shows a slowdown of The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation [2] this will be disastrous to anyone living in the north of Europe. There should be no new Oil and Gas exploitation! Saturday in also Doors Open Day, the ATUC will be open for people to visit and there will be a slow cafe with the usual teas, coffees and cakes for visitors. As part of the above day of action we will also be showing the Museum of GreenWashing in the Centre it is a exhibition of examples of GreenWashing. Action is required to counter this propaganda and to ensure a livable environment for future generations. There is also another anti-immigration protest outside Marischal College on Saturday at 2PM, we will be countering their disinformation about immigration by handing out information flyers to inform the public. ----- We also have our monthly reading group on Sunday at 7PM. The Council was formed in 1868 and is still going strong, playing an important role as it continues to support workers in these challenging times. The space is also home to Aberdeen Social Centre which is an activist support and networking hub. The aim of the Centre is to build the capacity of and the connections between grassroots community activism. For Doors Open Days a range of historical artefacts will be on display, providing a fascinating insight into the history of trade unionism in Aberdeen. RADICAL CAFE Meeting Room ABERDEEN SOCIAL CENTRE Saturday September 6th 10:00-16:00 BST The ATUC will be open to the public all day as part of Doors open day, with ATUC history and a display of the Museum Of GreenWashing as it is also day of action for Stop Rosebank. We will have a slow cafe, there will be tees, coffees and cakes from 10am to 4pm drop by if you are around. Our weekly Radical Cafe, a space to meet and build those connections with local activists, come along for convivial chat, a look at the new books in the swap and shop, and meet other people active in the city. We are also Saddened to hear of the passing of Steven from the Vegan Bay Bakery who supported us so well with cakes every week, our hearts go out to his family, and we'll greatly miss the butteries. So until we source a new supply the cafe will be asking for home-bakes, you can bring butteries, cakes or whatever else you can rustle up for the overworked activists of Aberdeen. STOP ROSEBANK, NSTA DEMONSTRATION External UNNAMED CLIMATE JUSTICE GROUP Saturday September 6th 12:30-13:30 BST A Demonstration in Support of the Stop_Rosebank_-_Day Of Action [6] we will have a literal red line around the North Sea Transition Authority, as we have to draw a red line over new oil and gas exploitation. There are many reasons this Rosebank must be stopped come by and find out why. There will speeches from local activists Speaking to Climate Change, Just Transition and Colonialism. ABERDEEN WELCOMES REFUGEES, NOT RACISM External ABERDEEN ANTI-FASCIST ALLIANCE Saturday September 6th 14:00-16:00 BST Stand Free Against Racism READING GROUP Meeting Room Online THE MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT UNION Sunday September 7th 19:00-20:30 BST A reading group collectively selecting short text to read and discuss, the reading could be anything from a news article, blog post, pamphlet to a short play. This reading this week will be The Conspiracy of Law [3] by Howard Zinn. Read the text before the meeting it should take about an hour and a half, then we can discuss what we think about the text at the meeting. The names comes from a similar reading group from the 19th century with the intention to educate the community on socialism and understanding the modern world.
